At Mt. Diablo Orthodontics, Dr. Reichhold and Dr. Vargas are committed to exceeding the standards of their profession. They are active members of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Contra Costa Dental Society and the World Federation of Orthodontists. In addition, Dr. Reichhold had served as one of the faculty at the UCSF Orthodontic program as an assistant clinical professor. The doctors also have been invited on numerous occasions to speak about orthodontics to dental groups.
Dr. Gary Reichhold
Dr. Gary Reichhold received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He then attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) in June of 1987. He graduated with honors and was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He then completed his education at UCSF School of Dentistry where he received his Certificate in Orthodontics in 1989.
When Dr. Reichhold is not at the office he enjoys traveling, gardening, fishing, Giants baseball, 49ers football, Cal football and Warriors basketball as well as spending time with his family!
Dr. Ricky Vargas
Dr. Ricky Vargas is a dedicated orthodontist committed to creating beautiful, healthy smiles. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Holy Names University, where he played soccer on an athletic scholarship. He then attended the prestigious UCSF School of Dentistry, graduating with honors and earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
Driven by a passion for advancing orthodontic care, Dr. Vargas continued his education at UCSF, where he obtained a Master of Science in Oral Biology and Craniofacial Sciences along with his orthodontic certification. During his residency, he conducted groundbreaking research on bone remodeling and its impact on skeletal malocclusions. His work led to a published article in Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research titled “Altering
Osteoclast Numbers Using CTSK Models In Utero Affects Mice Offspring Craniofacial Morphology.” Outside of his practice, Dr. Vargas enjoys spending quality time with his family, playing soccer, fishing, and embracing the outdoors. His dedication to both his patients and personal passions makes him a well-rounded and compassionate professional in the field of orthodontics.
A fun fact about Dr. Vargas—he applied to dental school while playing soccer in New Orleans for a professional developmental team and ultimately declined a professional contract to pursue his career in dentistry.
Both Dr. Reichhold and Dr. Vargas have a passion for orthodontics and love working with both children and adults. They are excited to give their patients confident smiles that will last a lifetime!
